Portland, OR. The City Of Roses

Portland is also called the City of Roses. It is the largest city in Oregon. In the Pacific Northwest, it is the second largest city. Portland lies about one hundred and twenty-four kilometers from the Pacific Coast. It straddles Willamette River's south confluence with the Columbia River.

The city lies between Seattle and San Francisco. The city is very laid back and packed with character. It's planning policies have created a small town feeling in the city. It has about six hundred and fifty thousand people. The city boasts of impressive music and arts and an enormous collection of independent publishers. It has one of the most impressive restaurant and dining experiences on the West Coast. There are more than seventy breweries in the city and its surroundings.

The city has an extensive streetcar and rail system. The traffic situation in the city is very bad. The cost of living is also accelerating rapidly. However, it still relatively inexpensive compared to other cities on the West Coast.

Architecture

The architecture of the city is a blend of modern and ancient architecture. There are numerous lush parks. Some of the prominent parks are the Washington Park and Forest Park. The parks teem with a variety of plant and animal species. They also have trails and other amenities such as museums, and picnic spots. Forest Park is very popular with hikers, runners, and equestrians.

Climate

The city has four very distinct seasons. The rainy season starts from October and it lasts up to the middle of spring. Summer is dry and sunny. The temperatures during the winter do not normally fall below the freezing point. The city experiences very little snow. The winters tend to be very rainy.
